Installation Case Study - Project 2514

The Clients Brief

We were asked by a client to put together a proposal for a security system at an old vicarage he was renovating and extending.

The brief included the need for they system to be easy to use, integrate with the AV system and most importantly not to look out of place when installed.

The intruder system was to be a monitored system but the client was unsure about a monitored CCTV system at the time of the initial consultation.

The Proposal

Once all the plans were sent over a proposal was drawn up to include CCTV, a comprehensive intruder alarm, and a gate entry system.

As the client was unsure if they wanted a monitored CCTV system it was proposed to pre-wire for the additional features so it could be upgraded at a later stage.

To start, an award winning intruder system was proposed that would allow great flexibility when it comes to integration as well as having a wide range of finishes of key pads. The system would feature a mixture of sensor types to create a very comprehensive and flexible system.

The proposed CCTV system would feature top of the range Samsung equipment and all cameras would have adaptive infra-red LED’s to allow for excellent night time coverage. The CCTV images would be made available to the Sensory International supplied AV system to allow the CCTV images to be displayed on the client’s televisions and iPads.
For the gate entry system BPT was proposed for their reliability and sleek look of the entry panels. As the property would have an inner gate as well as the main gate, a flush mount key pad would be installed to gain access to the courtyard.

To provide simple control a single fob system would be used to control the gates, garage doors and CCTV  monitoring system if required. The system would also be integrated into the AV system so the gates and garage doors can be controlled by an iPad.

The Installation

The installation would take place over the entire build of the property which stated in late 2011. Sensory engineers started the process by carrying out the first fix to the plans provided paying special attention to each cables final position.

The intruder system was one of the first systems to be installed. As the interior of the property was designed by an interior designer we paid special attention to every detail such as painting the panic buttons and flush mounting the speakers.

To help out with site security, the control equipment was promptly installed to allow the building contractor to arm the site at night and receive a text message if there was a break in.

Next to be installed was the CCTV cameras. In order to maintain the aesthetics of the building the cameras were painted to match the external color of the property. This was done at our warehouse facility in Macclesfield and 4 coats of paint were applied in order to give an excellent finish.

In order to pre-wire for a monitored CCTV system, cables were installed for speakers and left coiled up in the eaves. If the client wanted to upgrade to a monitored system then an analytical transmission system would be installed along with speakers and an amplifier. The transmission system would allow for a government approved analytical detection system to be used to create the monitored system.

The final equipment to be installed was the gate entry system on both gates. The BPT panel was flush mounted into the front gate post and key pads were installed on the rear and the front of the inner gate. Radio receivers were installed to allow a 4 button fob to be used which would allow the client to operate both gates and garage doors from a single device.
Integration

In order to control the system all the different aspect of the security system were integrated into the clients AV system supplied by Sensory International. Each system has its own page with individual buttons to allow ease of use.

Upgrades

Towards the end of the installation the client decided that they would like to have a monitored CCTV system. As we had pre-wired for this it was a simple process. We installed the speakers and transmission device and then configured the analytic s and after a soak test the system was live. To control the security system, the CCTV system would be armed and disarmed in line with the alarm panel and also by the remote fobs. This gave the client an easy and flexible system.

Conclusion

Overall we feel the installation went very well and are very proud of the final product. The client is very happy with the installation and very little has changed since the client has been living with system.

Follow up

After the system was installed and the client had moved in they began to have issues with people walking past the front gate and pressing the call button late at night. As this would call the phones it was waking up the client so we came up with a solution whereby the phone does not ring at night when the client is in bed.

Client Testimonial

Renovating and substantially extending a 200 year old Grade 2 listed building has been no mean feat!  Certainly stressful, anxious and often frustrating, but the end result is amazing!
Sensory have been the best contractor on the project, their help and advice from the initial discussions to the final handover have been nothing short of brilliant, the engineers are efficient, polite and courteous  and a credit to the company.
The Home Automation is state of the art and surprisingly easy to use, the security system is well designed and offers a great deal of reassurance.
Highly recommended!
